The Pesta was the brainchild of the late Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu. It was first started in December 1970 at Esplanade as part of an effort to create a healthy environment for businesses; this was during a period of high unemployment, and the investment climate in Penang was not at its best, to put it mildly. The Pesta would showcase consumer goods and business items in a carnival-like environment during the holiday period.
Held every year at the trade exposition, Sungai Nibong Penang from the 1960s this year it’s no different. Initiated by late Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu and first held at Esplanade, Pinang Pesta was believed to create more opportunities for business during a period of high unemployment.
And now if your parents suggest Pesta as a holiday activity, it’s usually because we’ve been good kids. Drawn by bright lights, thrilling shows, and good bargains, almost 500,000 are expected to attend this fest and this event is believed to bring some color to our island and we couldn’t agree more!
The fest team is aware that there ain’t a Pesta without usual rides such as Vortex, Sky Rider and Top Gun with other 19 various rides for all ages and extremist. This time, Pesta Pulau Pinang hopes to attract the crowd with unique activities such as Boxing, Muay Thai, interesting exhibition of antique keris, International Cat Show and various stalls selling local products.
