Clock Tower

The Sungai Petani Clock Tour, also called the Lim Lean Teng Clock Tower, is the most recognisable icon of the town of Sungai Petani. Located along Jalan Ibrahim, the clock tower was erected by early 20th century Penang millionnaire Lim Lean Teng to commemorate the Silver Jubilee (25th anniversary) of the marriage, in 1893, of King George V, then Prince George Frederick Ernest Albert the Duke of York, to Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, who became his consort with the title Queen Mary.

It was completed in 1920, over a year after the jubilee celebrations. The entrance to the new Sungai Petani Railway Station, which was completed in 2015 for the KTM Electric Train Service, is located in front of the clock tower.
